Except that she could have bought the NONE SEXY one. I think if parents are dressing their children for Halloween and conforming to gender stereotypes then yes, shame on you. But these are adults. Plus it’s not the guys fault that she picked out the sexy one.

There’s also the argument that the costume is sexy which is empowering her, but I dislike that argument because there are too many flaws.

One simply being that it’s bad for other girls (and guys) because it’s showing that girls are less creative and can’t come up with something sexy that doesn’t conform to mainstream ideas of what gender and sexy should be.

This is the model. She got paid to wear this costume. And the problem is that with a lot of women’s costumes, there aren’t many non-sexy options. As for wearing the men’s costume, yes, it is an option. However, that shouldn’t be the only option if you want to dress more modestly.

Oh, and there’s this thing called sexual dimorphism. Humans have it. The male costume isn’t going to fit right on a lot of women because they aren’t designed for the wider hips and breasts. I have trouble finding women’s clothes that fit right because of my chest size, a costume that’s not designed for breasts at all isn’t going to work. The male costume is broader around the shoulders and waist, but it’s also flat there, and it’s narrow at the hips. It’s not designed for a woman to wear, so it’s likely to be uncomfortable for a lot of women to wear. If I wanted to dress as Sonic for Halloween, my choices would be the Yandy costume or putting one together myself. Since I am a college student and cannot sew, this would probably be really expensive.
